At DEUTZ, we always advise operators to take coolant choice seriously. Water-cooled DEUTZ engines are built to perform under demanding thermal loads, but long-term reliability depends on using the right coolant protection.

A question we are often asked is: does standard coolant really provide enough protection? The answer is no. Standard coolants often fall short because modern engines operate under extreme thermal stresses, and using the wrong coolant can compromise performance and shorten your service life.

It may seem like using a non-DEUTZ coolant won’t make a difference, but our experience shows it can lead to serious problems. Non-approved coolants risk damaging sealing materials, causing leaks, corrosion and can even lead to severe engine damage through pitting of aluminium components.

OUR ADVICE

Only coolants approved under the DEUTZ Quality Class (DQC) standard should be used in DEUTZ engines.
Damage caused by non-approved coolants, or from missed maintenance intervals, is excluded from warranty coverage.

HOW TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR COOLANT SYSTEM

Follow these simple rules to protect your cooling system:

  • When mixing concentrated coolant with fresh water, ALWAYS use distilled or demineralised water.
  • Never mix different coolant types. ALWAYS stick to the one approved for your engine.
  • Check coolant levels regularly and if you need to top up, make sure to keep to the correct mix ratio.
  • Replace your coolant, using the correct venting procedure, at the recommended intervals to maintain corrosion and frost protection.
  • Always follow DEUTZ guidelines for approved coolants to ensure maximum engine safety.

DEUTZ RECOMMENDED COOLANT

We recommend DEUTZ Coolant Core Protect is used in DEUTZ engines, in accordance with instructions, to provide reliable year-round protection preventing damage caused by ice formation, cavitation and rust inside the cooling system.

Before winter sets in we advise that you check your coolant concentration to ensure frost protection is in place. A 50/50 mix of concentrate with distilled or demineralised water typically provides frost protection down to approximately −38 °C, which is sufficient for most operating conditions.

It’s important to note that regular checks are just as important as the initial fill: so you should maintain levels, avoid mixing coolant types and replace coolant according to DEUTZ service intervals. Following these simple steps ensures your DEUTZ engine will stay protected and performs reliably, even in extreme cold.
