3 Steps to Winterise Your Deutz Engine

Cold weather puts extra strain on your machine. Without preparation, you risk higher wear, costly downtime, and reduced performance. By giving your DEUTZ engine some attention now, you’ll keep it running reliably all winter long. Here are three simple steps to help prevent those winter blues.

1) CHECK AND PROTECT YOUR FLUIDS

Fluids are one of the most common causes of winter failures. Lower temperatures can cause freezing, thickening or contamination, leading to blocked lines, overheating or system damage.

Diesel: If your machine has been parked for a while, diesel may begin to wax, where paraffin crystals form and clog fuel lines or filters. Instead of draining your tank, we recommend you add DEUTZ FlowBoost. This premium additive lowers the minimum usable temperature of your diesel fuel by up to 10°C, preventing wax build up.
Coolant: All water-cooled engines need freeze protection. We recommend that DEUTZ Coolant Core Protect is used in a 50:50 mix with fresh water to keep your cooling system safe even down to -38°C.
Oils: Oil viscosity changes with temperature. Some oils having the potential to become problematic at lower temperatures leading to engine overheating and potential failures. DEUTZ engine oils are formulated for all climates and specifically designed for DEUTZ engines, reducing wear and increasing engine reliability.
AdBlue: AdBlue freezes at around -11°C. Since tanks and lines only heat when the engine is running, proper storage of machines when not in use is essential to prevent any expansion upon freezing of the AdBlue. However, not all AdBlue is made equal which is why we highly recommend the use of DEUTZ PowerBlue to help stabilise performance and reduce cold-weather issues.
Additives: Winter start-up is when engines face the highest stress. We recommend the use of DEUTZ StartBoost to improve combustibility for increased start-up reliability and optimised start-up behaviour. We also recommend the use of DEUTZ Clean-Diesel InsyPro to maintain your fuel system. This additive removes existing deposits and clogging within the injection system whilst also preventing new build-up, keeping fuel flowing freely. This enables your fuel to function properly and reduces any unnecessary stress on the system during the tougher conditions normally experienced in winter months.

2) KEEP FILTERS IN TOP CONDITION

Your choice of fluids used in your engine matter, but even the best fluids need effective filtration, especially in winter. Well-maintained filters help to mitigate potential problems from any contaminated fluids that could put unnecessary strain on your engine when conditions are already demanding.
